Physical Description:
Vretarn Ch’Zhar is an Andorian, with naturally white hair, blue skin and dark brown eyes. He is slightly taller than the average Andorian, thanks in part to the fact that he has a straight posture. Vretarn has ordinary strength compared to the others of his kind. And although bearing few scars, he has been in his fair share of fights, especially with fellow Andorians. Lt. Ch’Zhar’s only visible imperfection is a scar on his stomach-region; a wound he received during a routine combat training exercise at Starfleet Academy. Being a Doctor, Ch’Zhar maintains an impressive physique not by Exercising constantly, but by keeping a healthy diet, primarily consisting of Fruits, Vegetables and Vitamin Supplements.
Although Vretarn Ch’Zhar exercises and he is fit, he does not have a very defined muscle tone, and he is quite lanky/skinny for an Andorian. He uses this to his advantage in many situations, as it gives him increased mobility over most members of his species.
During combat, Ch’Zhar prefers to use his agility over brute strength to conquer foes. His weapon of choice is the Ushaan-Tor, a sacred Andorian melee weapon, traditionally used for duels. As far as Exercise is concerned, Vret performs a cardiovascular workout once every week in the holodeck, for half an hour, to help keep fit and maintain the physical requirements that service in Starfleet warrants. However, he will always accept an extra workout with a colleague, in the form of a duel, once in a while.
Vretarn, like any other Andorian, has a pair of long antennae, sprouting out from his head. In times of stress, they are prone to shake. In Conclusion, Lt. Vretarn Ch’Zhar is a healthy, young Andorian, who more than meets the expectations for Starfleet Medical Health and Fitness Regulations.
Biography:
Vretarn Ch’Zhar was born to four loving parents in the small Andorian settlement of Iketthan, situated on the North-West Continent on Andor. His early years were spent with his family, who spent all of their spare time teaching the young Vret about Andorian culture, and basic skills. For his first 7 years of life, he had very little time to engage in personal endeavors. Pre-Occupied with Education, Vretarn had very few ‘friends’ on Andor.
Sometime after his 8th birthday (Terran Years), the Family considered their mission of raising Vretarn complete, and the Familial Unit split up, as was ritual for their culture. Shortly after, Ch’Zhar was taken to the Human System of Alpha Centauri due to troubling times on Andor, where he spent the rest of his childhood. His learning process continued in a Human Educational Establishment.
Many things happened during his life at Alpha Centauri. He was enrolled in a boarding school, where he was taught more about the ways of the Federation, and the endeavours of such great people as Zeffren Cochrane, Spock, and of course, James T. Kirk. It was this study in exploration that sparked an interest in the now teenage Vretarn Ch’Zhar. After that, he dreamed of investigating the wonders of new worlds, and discovering cultures new to the Federation.
During his Life at Alpha Centauri, something else was also changing in Vretarn. What used to be the teachings of strict discipline and stoicism from his parents, had now been altered by his close contact with human culture. He became influenced by their ways of emotion, and how they so freely expressed them to others. This changed the way his perceived the way, and by the time he turned 15, he was no longer nervous about expressing such emotions as Love and Fear, and he became sociable to others.
After completing the Boarding School requirements with impressive marks (thanks to some of the discipline his parents had taught him) it was now time for Vretarn to decide what to do with his life. He looked into several paths of possible careers, observing the acts of professions such as Journalism, Diplomacy, and Engineering. Uncertain of where to proceed, Vret enrolled in a further year of Advanced Education courses on Alpha Centauri. During his year, he was introduced to the profession of Medicine. After completing his courses at the School, Vret then knew that he wanted to spend his life as a Doctor.
When Vretarn was 19 years old, he enrolled in Starfleet Academy in the Capital City of Alpha Centauri, where he took all available Medical Courses. Being one year older than all of his peers, however was tough for Ch’Zhar, but he managed to pull through to graduating at the top fifth of his class.
Although he was required to take all of the mandatory ‘basic’ academy courses (giving him a rudimentary understanding of many of the functions available on a Duty Station) Vretarn put most of his time into expanding his knowledge of the medical sciences, preparing him for the Advanced Medical Degree. During his time at the academy, he was well liked by his peers and made several lasting friendships, thanks in no small part to his social developments on Alpha Centauri.
After graduating from the Academy, Vret prepared for his final educational journey. His two year attendance at the Medical School at the Terran settlement of Cambridge gave him the extra recognition he needed to assure himself that he was ready for active duty as a Medical Officer onboard a starship.
Vretarn Ch’Zhar’s first position as a Medical Officer was onboard the Intrepid Class Vessel, the USS Gagarin, which gave him hands-on experience for the role of the Starfleet Officer. Although there were very few critical situations for the first few months serving on the Gagarin, the experience it would give Vretarn would be crucial in latter times of peril.
Soon after Vretarn was promoted to Lieutenant (JG), the Intrepid was engaged by a squadron of Dominion fighters in a large scale battle, during the Dominion War. As the battle raged on, casualties poured into sickbay. The commotion panicked the young Vretarn; this would be the first time in his life that he would be in a battle, and it wouldn’t be the last. However, he overcame the fear and did everything in his power to save his comrades. As the USS Gagarin’s hull gave way, the Escape pods were readied, and the last surviving remnants of the Gagarin’s crew escaped under the covering fire of a Sovereign class Starship as the USS Gagarin was blown apart.
For his heroic efforts during the battle, Vretarn Ch’Zhar was promoted to Full Lieutenant, and given a position of Chief Medical Officer onboard a Starship… The USS Phoenix.
After being assigned to the Excalibur-Class Vessel, it wasn’t long before Vretarn made some friendships amongst the rest of the crew, and their first missions began. The high-risk adventures that the Phoenix took was a substantial change from the patrol routes the Gagarin used to do. Vretarn Ch’Zhar had never experienced this sort of active duty before, but he enjoyed the excitement the adventures brought him, looking forward to every new day, in hopes that it might take him where no Andorian has gone before.
Personality Profile:
Vretarn Ch’Zhar is unlike the ordinary Andorian. Instead of avoiding Social Activity and demonstrating a stoic behaviour similar to that of a Vulcans, Vretarn enjoys the company of others, and has a playful attitude about him; an emotional template adopted from close contact to humans from his childhood years on Alpha Centauri. Ch’Zhar likes to joke and laugh, to help pass the time. He is easy to talk to, making him a popular person to talk to about various problems. Although he is usually easy going and pleasant, he can be angered or hurt easily if someone does something he doesn’t approve of. If someone doesn’t like him, he will attempt to prove himself to them, in hopes of erasing their dislike/hatred.
Many characteristic attributes of Vret give him the atmosphere of a child at times. His playful attitude, good sense of humour and friendliness all compliment that statement. However, sometimes during stressful situations, Vretarn’s ability to think clearly can be impaired, and that can lead to disastrous consequences. But with every peril he survives, his ability to think under pressure improves.
Although Vretarn seeks good terms with everyone, he has in fact very few people he considers close friends. He believes a true friendship takes a long time, sometimes even years to cultivate. His best friend onboard the Phoenix is the Utility Officer/Counselor Drake Keil, who became his friend shortly after his transfer to the USS Phoenix.
As far as Starfleet Medical is concerned, Lt. Vretarn Ch’Zhar is in the best on mental health, forming a consistency with his physical well-being. Although many of the Vulcan-like Andorian virtues of stoicism had been broken during his time on Alpha Centauri, he still managed to retain some of the discipline he had been taught upon his homeworld, which helps him to keep a healthy diet, and an adequate regime of fitness conditioning.
In his spare time, Vretarn Ch’Zhar enjoys writing poetry, reading, listening to music, and an occasional role playing experience on the holodeck. His favourite type of music is classical/orchestral, and he is particularly fond of Andorian, Trill, and Vulcan cuisine. His least favorite food is that of Earth’s, which he deems, ‘inedible.’ He is a fun character, who is open to new ideas, but rarely changes his outlook on a situation.
Vretarn is generally cheerful and pleasant most of the time, but he has a hard time letting go of unpleasant memories. A fine example of this was during the time after the USS Gagarin’s destruction, Vretarn had nightmares depicting the suffering he had witnessed during the final moments of the USS Gagarin’s service in the Federation Navy. He restrained himself was going to see the Councillor, his friend Drake Keil about the matter, as he thought of his post-traumatic sorrow as a private matter.
In Conclusion, Vretarn Ch’Zhar is a formidable officer, and he continues to serve the motives of the Federation faithfully and efficiently to this day.
